Multimode fiber lasers feature plug-and-play capability

SPI Lasers, a wholly owned subsidiary of the TRUMPF Group, has introduced a line of high-power, multikilowatt fiber lasers for the industrial macro materials processing market. The products extend the redPower CW fiber lasers from 1 kW to 3 kW.

The K1 1000 is available as a high-beam-quality, single-mode, 1-kW laser source or as a multimode laser. Together with the higher-power K1 2000 and K1 3000 products, the laser source can be configured with output process fibers from 50- to 600-μm dia.

A beam combiner enables plug-and-play capability for the individual laser input source units and the output process fiber. With a real-time power control providing stability, high modulation bandwidth, and hardened back reflection tolerance, the laser can process both bright metals and standard steels.

The pluggable combiner eliminates the need for a transport fiber and enables straightforward selection of the most appropriate beam quality for the intended application. Rapid replacement of both process fiber and laser source units helps reduce machine downtime without the need for specialized field service equipment.
