Flash welding process minimizes oxide, carbide formation

Taylor-Winfield Technologies has introduced the patented Force Freeze flash welding process. According to the company, the process extends the range of material that can be joined using conventional flash butt welding; eliminates "checker-boarding"; and minimizes the formation of oxides, carbides, and nitrides that can disrupt the weld region and cause weld joint failure.
The process can be applied to flash welding machines being used in pickle line tandem cold-rolling mills; continuous pickle lines; coil buildup lines; and in lines producing wheels, band saw blades, pipe, tubing, and rail.
This new welding process can be added to any existing flash welding machine by a controls upgrade. When integrated with existing hydraulics, the system allows welding of AHSS materials.
