3-D scanner captures images from all angles, combines them into one

February 9, 2010

Exact Metrology Inc. has introduced the MH 3-D scanner from Artec. The lightweight, hand-held 3-D scanner allows users to scan target objects from any angle.

The scanner requires no mounts or markers. It works like a regular video camera, but instead of a 2-D image, the result is a 3-D image captured at speeds of up to 15 surfaces per second. The user walks around the object and scans it from various angles, while the accompanying software combines all the scanned images into one.

The scanner is equipped with wide-field-of-view 3-D and megapixel 2-D sensors. It captures both the shape and surface texture of an object in a snapshot or video mode.
