Alloy analyzers identify light elements in metal, alloy applications

Rigaku Analytical Devices has introduced Katana™, a hand-held, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) analyzer. It offers on-the-spot identification of difficult alloys, including aluminum grades. The unit delivers results with QuickID™ software in less than 2 sec., according to the company.

The analyzer has an IP54 rating, protecting against dusty and harsh work environments encountered in scrap recycling yards. Its integrated proprietary laser ablation and detection engine (BLADE™) technology keeps the unit smaller and lighter weight than many other analyzers, says the manufacturer.
