App designed for ultrasonic flaw detection, XRF inspections

Olympus NDT has introduced the Industrial Tech Guide app for Android® and iPhone® smartphones. Available for download on Google Play and iTunes, this free mobile application contains two knowledge-based sections designed for technicians performing ultrasonic flaw detection and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) inspections. It contains descriptions of all of the company's industrial instruments, with quick links for detailed product information or to obtain a request for quotation.

For NDT inspectors, the guide lists the acoustic properties (longitudinal wave velocity, shear wave velocity, and acoustic impedance) of many common materials. It also includes a calculator for common beam parameters (wavelength, nearfield length, and beam diameter) used in test setup and interpretation.

For inspectors working with a variety of metal alloys, the guide includes an alloy materials section that provides look-up of the chemistry specifications for common alloy grades using trade names or alloy families. It is designed for use by XRF and PMI inspectors, scrap sorters, material handlers, NDT contractors, and QA/QC managers.
