Infrared scanner measures lightweight materials without spraying

March 5, 2014

AiMESS Services GmbH offers the patented 3-D R3Dscan infrared scanner for automated use in a production line. The fringe projection system detects lightweight materials, such as carbon fiber, glass fiber, and fiber-reinforced plastics, without having to treat the surface of the object to be measured, enabling measurements in the production cycle.

The scanner does not analyze the reflection, but the energy absorbed by the object to be measured. This energy is converted into heat, which is captured by the system using an infrared detector. The unit can scan transparent, dark, or reflective surfaces, separating the transparent matrix of the laser-treated metal/FRP pairing from its fiber to identify quality-relevant surface parameters of the laser-treated lightweight material. This data helps predict bonding success.
