Software integrates with robot for inline, 3-D inspection

Metrologic Group offers the X4 i-Robot for inline, 3-D inspection. Measuring accuracy is independent of the robot’s positioning precision. Robot motions are synchronized with measurements, and the robot trajectory is controlled by a simplified part program.

The measuring system is based on a high-speed acquisition laser scanner attached to a multiaxis robot wrist. The robot, of any type or brand, without specific accuracy, behaves as a simple toolholder and positioner while the measuring accuracy is provided by a separate tracking camera following the laser sensor box equipped with positioning LEDs, or by a laser tracker system.

Typical overall absolute accuracy is 100 μm. The system is suitable for manufacturing line metrology control in the automotive and aerospace industries.
