Tube mill uses direct forming to produce square, rectangular tubes

Fives has introduced the OTO HSU (hollow shape universal) tube mill, designed to produce square and rectangular tubes for the construction industry. The mill produces HSU tubes through direct forming, skipping the traditional step of constructing round tubes and then squaring them.

The line comprises the mill with forming stands that allow for strip bending at precise angles for the first and second bends. The remaining equipment comprises a high-frequency welding stand, a scarfing unit, cooling and sizing sections, straightening and cutoff units, and a packaging system.

The mill allows frequent production changes without a roll change. Products can vary from a minimum size of 0.79 in. square to a maximum of 5.5 in. square. Maximum speed is 394 FPM.
