Weld seam inspection system determines size, position of all relevant defects in real time

A new sensor has been added to the VIROwsi welding seam inspection system from Vitronic.

The system objectively inspects the seam and sorts out defective parts. It determines the size and position of all relevant defects such as pores, holes, undercuts, and seam geometry in real time. All results are directly incorporated into a protocol and stored for subsequent tracking.

The compact design of the sensor helps ensure accessibility to the component and to the seam to be inspected, even into the smallest corner. With combined 2-D/3-D image recording, extremely flat seams can be inspected reliably, reports the company. Highly reflective materials such as aluminum also are inspected with respect to flawless welding seams with the sensor.
