Abrasive waterjet machine cuts small parts - TheFabricator.com

OMAX® has introduced the MicroMAX™ JetMachining® Center for abrasive waterjet cutting of parts or part features smaller than 0.012 in. from a variety of materials, including exotic metals, advanced composites, polymer thermoplastics, and glass. Suitable for prototype development and production runs, the machine has a table size of 2 ft. 4 in. by 2 ft. 4 in. and an XY cutting travel of 2 by 2 ft.

Linear encoders, vibration isolation, and intuitive software control systems help achieve a position repeatability of 0.0001 in. and a positioning accuracy of about 0.0004 in.

The high-precision 7/15 Mini MAXJET5i nozzle features a 0.007-in. orifice and 0.015-in. mixing tube combination for cutting delicate, complex patterns. Because it forms a jet stream carrying an extremely fine abrasive, the nozzle can produce a kerf as small as 0.015 in.. The machine also has advanced pressure controls for piercing delicate materials.
