Laser-based weld inspection system scans for defects in real time

May 16, 2012

The Radian-PWS laser-based weld inspection system from Invisual E is designed to measure and scan for defects and discontinuities in real time, helping to increase accuracy and repeatability for ERW-HFI processes.

The sensor measures four main parameters: bead geometry for temperature control and cold welds, mismatch/offset, presentation angle of the strip edges at the weld point, and weld skips and gaps.

Visuals and alerts help the operator understand production conditions before problems occur. The system provides process information for use in quality control and quality assurance practices.
