Second-generation tube weld inspection system introduced

Xiris Automation Inc. has begun shipping its second-generation postweld inspection system. Designed to be installed right after the weld head in tube and pipe mills, the WI2000p inspects and detects a variety of quality issues related to the welding process.
Using a high-resolution camera combined with fast data capture and laser imaging, the inspection system detects defects to 0.009 in. on a typical laser welding tube mill. Defects inspected include weld undercut, raised/sunken welds, pinholes, bead position, weld height, and weld register (mismatch).
