TRUMPF Inc. has introduced the N500-8 nibbler, which cuts in all four cutting directions. According to the company, it is the only nibbler able to do so in the performance class that cuts steel sheets up to 0.197 in. thick. The company's modifications to the die carrier holder allow the nibbler to operate in reverse and four directions. With this function, users can move the tool horizontally toward them or, with very little pressure, vertically from top to bottom. Two of the more suitable applications for the tool are tank demolition and coil processing. Tank demolition, which involves working in tight, narrow spaces, is simplified with a nibbler that moves in all four directions. In the coil industry, the nibbler can be used to cut free a sheet band stuck in a coiling machine, even if the sheet is under tension, because reverse cutting positions the user away from the sheets. With a 1,400-W motor and weighing less than 9 lbs., the nibbler cuts stainless steel 0.125 in. thick at a working speed of about 4.9 FPM. It cuts through aluminum sheets up to 0.275 in. thick as well.

A pneumatic stock cutter from P/A Industries features a new design that maintains close tolerances between parts. According to the company, this helps extend the life of the cutting blades up to five times longer than competitive models. In most cases, blades go for years before sharpening is required, the manufacturer states. The opening between the cutting blades is 1/4 in., which eliminates the need for special point-of-operation guarding and the potential for serious injury. The simple design has nine parts total. Parts are closely fitted with no adjustment or shims required.Width capacities are 1.5 in., 3 in., 5 in., and 7 in. Cutting force capacities are 132 lbs., 942 lbs., 2,073 lbs., and 4,147 lbs. at 75 PSI.The compact design allows installation in small areas close to production tooling. The moving blade features two cutting edges, while the fixed blade has four cutting edges.

T&H Lemont has introduced an automatic cutoff, length control system. The controller is the equivalent of a personal computer in a rugged industrial enclosure. Programs to perform length control tasks are stored in programmable read-only memory (PROM). The system is compatible with Windows® networks. The controller uses a liquid crystal display (LCD) and keypad for operator interface. The LCD has 15 lines of display, 40 characters per line, and the keypad has 39 keys for data entry. Scrolling through available drop lists allows for selection of nonnumeric data. Drop lists and programs are entered by the manufacturer before shipment to the customer, which enables virtual plug-and-play installation.
