TRUMPF's TruTops Mark Navigator is an interactive software used in conjunction with the company's TruTop laser markers to help optimize laser parameters for different laser marking processes and materials. No specific laser marking knowledge is required to use the software. The menu directs the operator to choose the appropriate materials and the desired process, such as deep engraving, annealing, or ablation. As a final step, the operator selects the marking content and designates whether it is an area to be filled, or lines. The software creates a test matrix that is marked on a test piece. The operator then evaluates the test matrix, selects the best field, and clicks on the field in the software. The laser parameters are transferred directly into the laser marking program. A zoom-in function allows for fine-tuning of test patterns.

Amada's new LC-C1NT combination punch/laser machine has been engineered to reduce the time it takes to transition between modes. According to the company, the normal transition time of almost 5 seconds has been decreased to about 2.2 seconds, which can reduce run time per sheet by two or more minutes. The Y-axis punch and laser positioning drive modules use digital, direct-drive servomotors, eliminating the need for gearboxes and increasing accuracy ±0.003 in., the company reports.Continuous loop feedback monitoring helps ensure accuracy through long production runs.

GSI Group has introduced a new product to its line of JK™ industrial lasers. The JK604D laser was designed to address percussion drilling and trepanning within the Aerospace and Automotive industry sectors. Typical applications include drilling of cooling holes (effusion) in jet engines and gas turbine components, such as nozzle guide vanes, blades, and combustor liners. The laser features a beam quality that is consistent over a wide operating envelope. It also offers quick, consistent warm-up and is appropriate for drill-on-the-fly applications, particularly with irregular hole patterns, the company says.Modular power supply technology allows a smaller power supply footprint. The LaserView™ graphical user interface provides for easy, high-speed interfacing with system level controllers.Providing an optimized peak power of 16kW, the pulsed laser has a demonstrated capability for percussion drilling low angle (30 degrees or less) holes in both single crystal turbine blade and typical guide vane alloys in the range of 0.25 mm to 0.8 mm in less than one second, with low recast layer thickness, the company says.

TRUMPF's TruLaser Tube 7000 laser cutting system processes tubes inside a tunnel-like safety enclosure and then moves them forward to the brush table or ejects them to a parts container behind the machine. Its heavy-duty drives are engineered for heavy tubes, and it features a broad chucking range. The machine can cut tubes and profiles with large diameters and wall thicknesses. It processes tubes up to 30 ft. long and can handle a maximum weight of 496 lbs. The system features a 0.6- to 10-in. clamping range and is available with up to 3.6 kW of laser power. When changing programs, nearly all of the adjustments depend on profile specifics. Values that have to be entered at the machine and the loading unit can be handled by the parts program. The self-centering chucking jaws do not need to be changed, and the rollers that provide support and lateral guidance for the tubing automatically adjust to the diameter. Even the integrated scrap container in the feed station is emptied without operator intervention.he FocusLine function automatically adapts the laser focal position to the material type and thickness. The machine's software independently adjusts to the focus parameters given in the technology table. Also new is the slender cutting head with a 6-in. lens and new clutch style. When combined with the LoadMaster Tube, featuring a tube magazine that can hold up to 8,000 lbs. of raw material, the system can be fully automated. Its pivoting feed support holds a number of tubes and keeps them at constant orientation. Special profiles and small batches can be fed by a conveyor section.
