Sugino Corp. has introduced portable pneumatic drilling units designed for the aerospace industry. The Pneucon Selfeeder™ is designed to provide less than 0.0006-in. T.I.R. and 0.0008-in. repeatability on depths. The prototype units incorporate a requested design feature from the company's field-tested double hydro-speed regulator technology, which produces fine holes without burrs. The rapid approach of the drill is slowed when the primary control feed rate regulator is engaged before entering the part. As the drill approaches its preset depth, the secondary control feed rate regulator further slows the drilling unit to almost eliminate burrs on breakthrough.

Amada's new LC-C1NT combination punch/laser machine has been engineered to reduce the time it takes to transition between modes. According to the company, the normal transition time of almost 5 seconds has been decreased to about 2.2 seconds, which can reduce run time per sheet by two or more minutes. The Y-axis punch and laser positioning drive modules use digital, direct-drive servomotors, eliminating the need for gearboxes and increasing accuracy ±0.003 in., the company reports.Continuous loop feedback monitoring helps ensure accuracy through long production runs.

Salvagnini America has introduced a new generation of its S4 punching and shearing machine, the S4X.The S4X features a completely redesigned manipulator powered by two pairs of rotary electric motors. The first pair employes rack and pinion kinematics driven by new handovercontrol logic. The second pair uses two ball-bearing screws directed by gantry control logic to position the sheet. This manipulator enables the machine to offer enhanced processing speed, reduced cycle times, increased productivity, and improved accuracy. The new model retains the company's patented stationary, multipress head that eliminates the in-cycle stops for tool changes that limit turret press processing speeds. All of the machines 96 punching tool stations are live and ready to simultaneously punch, countersink, and emboss parts.Beneath the fascia of the multipress head is a built-in shear that can make cuts of any length.Other upgrades include a new hydraulic power pack designed to reduce power consumption by 30 percent, an optional Cartesian stacker, and the expanded ability to incorporate all types of feeding connections.

TRUMPF offers portable power tools—the N700-2 nibbler, the C250-0 Plus double-cut shear, and the S250-6 electric shear—for coil line applications. The company says the nibbler is the world's smallest and lightest in the heavy-duty class. The nibbler can rotate the punch guide, allowing it to cut in a backward direction and be pulled toward the operator. It comes standard with two different handles, and punch changes require no tools. The nibbler cuts steel 0.275 in. thick and stainless steel 0.106 in. thick. The C250-0 Plus double-cut shear cuts sheet metal up to 0.098 in. thick at 32 FPM. It is suitable for spiral duct applications. The S250-6 electric shear is designed to require minimal operator force, cut burr- and chip-free, and run with minimal noise.
