WARDJet offers a waterjet system with a digitizing capability, allowing reverse engineering of physical parts that have no drawings or electron files. Large parts can be laid on the waterjet table, and the waterjet memorizes the part profile. With the X series controller, the waterjet cutting head or a laser alignment guide mounted near the cutting head can be used to record the X, Y, and Z coordinates of a part. The user clicks "Teach New Part" on the controller screen to start mapping the part geometry. Both lines and arcs can be taught. If further cleanup is needed, the CNC file can be brought into a CAD/CAM program.

Jet Edge's patented Dual Pressure Valve® helps increase waterjet cutting productivity by allowing waterjet operators to control water pressure independent of the waterjet pump. With the remotely mounted valve, waterjet operators can run multiple waterjet tables simultaneously at various pressures with a single pump. Operators also can perform low-pressure piercing operations without waiting for the waterjet pump to raise or lower to the desired pressure. The valve operates with any manufacturer's waterjet pump, cutting head, or waterjet cutting system and is fully configurable for pressure change ratios. Connection points are standard 60,000-PSI type. The valve is operated pneumatically and must be used in conjunction with another normally closed on/off valve or cutting head.

OMAX® has introduced the new A-Jet™ articulated jet cutting head. It cuts accurate beveled edges at angles determined by the machine operator or part program.Controlled by the company's proprietary Intelli-MAX® software, the cutting head adds two motion axes that allow tilting the nozzle over a range of 0 to 60 degrees from the vertical position. The new component can be used to produce beveled edges when cutting countersunk holes, and it can cut parts with complex geometries. The accessory features a fixed-focal-point design in which the XYZ axes need not be moved as the head tilts. With its additional axes of motion, the cutting head also allows production of beveled edges in preparation for welding operations. According to the company, use of the accessory can eliminate many secondary machining and grinding operations. The cutting head's large-diameter tubing with minimal pressure loss allows the use of large, high-power nozzles, and it is supplied with a MAXJET®5i diamond integrated nozzle. Use of a high-power nozzle allows for increased cutting speed.

Mitsubishi's MD+CELL combines the MD+PROII wire EDM with a Suprema DX44 waterjet for high speed and precision in one automated unit. The machine is designed to minimize operator intervention and maximize unattended run time for piece-part manufacturers. The MD+CELL uses a Mitsubishi MELFA six-axis robot to transfer rough cut pieces from the waterjet to be finished on the EDM machine. The waterjet includes an all-stainless steel work tank and utilizes 22-inch I-beam construction with 40 mm ball screws. Its Mitsubishi 700 Series CNC control delivers advanced programming capabilities for high-precision machining. The control is operated from a 15-inch waterproof screen, with improved graphics and NC design to simplify operation. The MD+PROII wire EDM's stacked-filter design reduces floor space requirements by 20 percent, the company says. The machine's upper- and lower-head design improves durability and reduces setup and maintenance costs. It comes standard with 0.004 in. to 0.012 in. wire capable automatic threading and all-axis absolute control, which enables accurate positioning without returning to zero after power failure. The simplified auto-threading and wire drive systems reduce part costs and extend maintenance cycles. The MD+PRO II's V350 II power supply with anti-electrolysis technology helps achieve top machining performance. PM4 (Power Master 4) has stepped shape capabilities, allowing multiple parts with different shapes and thickness to be machined without setting specific electrical conditions. SL (Step Less) Control improves accuracy for finishing step shape workpieces.

JetEdge Inc., a manufacturer of ultra-high pressure waterjets, has introduced the iP60-100S 100 HP, 60,000 PSI (4,100 bar) waterjet pump. The iP60-100S is a single intensifier version of the company's 100 HP waterjet pump. The pump produces 2.0 GPM (7.6 LPM) of ultra-high-pressure water for cutting, blasting, cleaning, and surface preparation applications. It supports orifices up to 0.021 in. (0.53 mm).The pump features a tie-rod design with no threaded cylinder, end caps, or hydraulic cylinder, which makes it less prone to cracking. Matched-metal components prevent galling of hydraulic system components. The pump also features hydraulic accumulators. Hydraulic fluid is cooled and filtered. A rugged hydraulic center section incorporates high-duty cycle-rated piston seal and wear rings and free-floating, self-aligning plungers.Attenuators with smooth pressure fluctuations deliver a constant, steady stream.

OMAX® has introduced MAXIEM, a new brand of waterjets. Manufactured entirely in the U.S., the new line is designed to integrate proven technologies in a cost-efficient package, providing users with an affordable, productive solution, the company says."Through years of marketing the OMAX line of JetMachining® Centers, we recognized the strong demand for a line of basic abrasive waterjet equipment," commented Dr. John Cheung, CEO of OMAX. "With the new MAXIEM line, we meet this demand, as well as the varying performance needs required by the international community. These varying needs and requirements coupled with the current economic situation make this a most opportune time to introduce this type of machine."Due to the differing specifications of MAXIEM machine, the line will not compete directly with OMAX products and is instead intended to broaden the market for abrasive waterjets. The MAXIEM line of machines is ideal for fabrication shops, metal service centers, trade schools, job shops, architectural, sign, stone, and gasket shops."As waterjet technology has evolved, the precision and accuracy of OMAX machines has moved beyond the point of what some manufacturers require," says Dr. John Olsen, co-founder and vice president of operations for OMAX. "To meet the needs of that market segment, we have built off OMAX's R&D to develop the MAXIEM brand, a highly productive, entry-level line of abrasive waterjets. With the hardships manufacturers are facing due to the economy, we felt it was our obligation to make the cost benefits of our waterjet technology available to as broad a base as possible."The first MAXIEM waterjet to be released is the 1530MX. Designed for the production of large parts or multiple parts from large stock, the machine cuts a wide variety of materials, including metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, stone, and composites. The machine's 50,000 psi pump is available in 20 and 30 horsepower options. All MAXIEM waterjets feature Intelli-MAX® Basic, a control containing the core functionality of OMAX's software, as well as the patent-pending X and Y-axis Traction Drive System designed to handle an abrasive environment.
