ERP software provides visibility into WIP
- By Kelly Ott

- Bending and Forming
- Article
Previously when it came to enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for manufacturers, sales orders became work orders that were scheduled for production and there was no way to track costs until the entire production was completed. There was little to no visibility into work-in-process (WIP) and outside processor inventory; therefore, tracking a part’s costs associated with both was difficult to manage. Now ERP software provides metal stampers with WIP visibility and accurate cost analysis by item and operation so they know exactly where they stand not only for costs, but also inventory.

When flat is where it’s at …
- By Bruce Grant

The use of materials with tensile strengths of more than 1,000 megapascal (MPa) continues to grow. These metals have a greater tendency than mild steel to retain coil set and crossbow and to have tighter tolerances between yield and tensile strength. Coil feed equipment older than five years typically does not deliver enough force to the work rolls to adequately counterbend coil-set advanced, high-strength steel (AHSS). Today, heavy-duty straightener heads have been modified significantly to tackle the processing of AHSS materials.
