Former 3D Systems service bureau sold, renamed, and based in Seattle

As of September 2021, the former On Demand Manufacturing business unit of 3D Systems (3DS) has been operating as an independent company called Quickparts. 3DS sold the unit in June ’21 to the U.S. private equity firm Trilantic North America for a reported $82 million.

Quickparts employs approximately 300 people and operates manufacturing facilities in Seattle, where the company is headquartered; Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; Italy; France; and the U.K.

The company 3D-prints plastic and metal parts using the following technologies: SLA (stereolithography), SLS (selective laser sintering), DMP/DMLS (direct metal printing/direct metal laser sintering), FDM (fused deposition modeling), and the Figure 4 process developed by 3DS. It also postprocesses printed parts and performs traditional manufacturing processes, like CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and injection molding.

Quickparts CEO Ziad Abou said of the company’s plans, “As we see it, it is now the right time take our growth and development a step further, which we will accomplish together with our new owner. We will invest primarily in digitization and in standardizing and improving the quality of 3D printing processes to further boost our competitive position.”

Quickparts looked to the past when seeking a name for the new company. In 2011, 3DS acquired a U.S. 3D printing service bureau called Quickparts.

“We have more than 28 years of experience to build on and have always been closely involved and helped drive the development of 3D printing technology,” said Abou.
