Ceramic coating protects 3D printer nozzle from wear

The fibtip nozzle for FFF (fused filament fabrication)-type 3D printers has a 10-µm-thick ceramic coating with a hardness of 2,000 HV—three times harder than hardened steel and twice as hard as Ni-P coatings, according to the manufacturer. (Fibtip is part of the Danish coating developer TRD Surfaces ApS.)

The coating, originally developed for marine engines, also reduces clogging of the nozzle caused by stray filament materials.

The tips are available in two styles, come with a lifetime warranty, and can be shipped to the U.S.
