Formlabs begins shipping SLS 3D printers

More than 60 of Formlabs’ Fuse 1 selective laser sintering machines have been shipped and are producing parts in the field.

One benefit of SLS 3D printing, says the company, is it eliminates support structures. That facilitates intricate geometries, interlocking parts, interior channels, and other complex design elements.

The redesigned benchtop printer makes industrial-grade nylon parts, features a 6.5- by 6.5- by 11.8-in. build chamber, lays down 0.004-in.-thick layers, and comes with a 10-W ytterbium laser.

The company also began shipping Fuse Sift, an all-in-one powder recovery station. It’s designed to work in tandem with the Fuse 1 and provide a seamless, simple method for postprocessing parts.
