Optomec introduces AM system for metal parts

Optomec’s new LENS CS 800 additive manufacturing system is based on directed-energy-deposition technology and was designed for printing medium to large parts. Because it features laser output up to 3 kW and is equipped with a newly designed deposition head, the system has a broad range of processing capabilities, reports the manufacturer.

Like other LENS-series printers, the new system comes standard with a controlled atmosphere that allows processing of reactive metals. The CS 800 has a Siemens 840D controller and can operate simultaneously in up to 5 axes when fitted with the MasterCAM/LENS plug-in. It accommodates up to four powder feeders, allowing for functional grading or special alloy blending during a build.
