Sun Glo Plating expands services to include passivation of stainless alloys

Clearwater, Fla.-based Sun Glo Plating Co. has announced that it now offers passivation to improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steel alloys.

“Passivation is accomplished by immersing stainless steel in a nitric or citric acid bath,” said Dave Brackenhamer, director of business development. “The acid removes tramp iron and surface contaminants, which helps to clean and reoxidize the metal. This postfabrication process provides for a more passive and corrosion-resistant surface.”

Passivation also can be used to restore damaged stainless surfaces by removing the surface iron that is exposed from mechanical use or chemical cleaners. After it’s complete, the surface retains its natural finish.
