Weld Systems Integrators’ 12J series CD welding equipment joins fasteners to hot-stamped, high-boron steel

Weld Systems Integrators Inc. (WSI) offers the new 12J series capacitor-discharge (CD) welding equipment, which delivers high peak currents (175,000+ amps) in 3 ms, resulting in total weld times less than 10 ms.

Very short weld times and high welding forces result in consistent, high-quality projection welds, says the company. These welds exceed pushout and torque requirements without damaging threads or creating an unacceptable HAZ, according to the manufacturer.

Less than 60 amps, single-phase, and no water cooling make the single- and multihead welding machines suitable for producing projection welds to hot-stamped and press-hardened, high-boron steel.
