Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has rejected Ford Motor Co.’s proposed electric vehicle battery plant in that state, citing his objection to the involvement of Chinese battery maker Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd.

“While Ford is an iconic American company, it became clear that this proposal would serve as a front for the Chinese Communist party, which could compromise our economic security and Virginians’ personal privacy," said Youngkin spokesperson Macaulay Porter, according to The Detroit News.

The production facility for lithium iron phosphate batteries to be used in Ford electric vehicles was expected to create 2,500 jobs.
