Novelis to open $2.5 billion aluminum plant in Alabama

Atlanta-based Novelis Inc. has announced plans to invest more than $2.5 billion to build a new, low-carbon aluminum recycling and rolling plant in Bay Minette, Ala. The facility will create about 1,000 jobs.

According to the company, the fully integrated aluminum mill will be powered with renewable energy, use recycled water, and be a zero-waste facility. The plant will make use of advanced automation and digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and robotics. It will have an initial 600 kilotonnes of finished aluminum goods capacity per year.

The facility, which Novelis expects to begin commissioning in mid-2025, will primarily serve the beverage can and automotive industries.
