TCT inducts inventor of binder jet printing into Hall of Fame

Professor Emanuel “Ely” Sachs

U.K.-based TCT Group has inducted Professor Emanuel “Ely” Sachs, a pioneer of 3-D printing, the inventor of binder jet printing, and a co-founder of Burlington, Mass.-based Desktop Metal, into its Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact in either inventing or developing 3-D printing technologies since their inception more than 30 years ago.

Sachs first established the term 3-D printing in the late 1980s while inventing and developing binder jet technology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As co-founder of Desktop Metal, his leadership has been instrumental in the development of Single Pass Jetting^TM, the proprietary technology used by the production system. Additionally, Sachs continues to educate the next generation of engineers through his position as a professor of mechanical engineering at MIT, where he earned his degrees in mechanical engineering, including a PhD.
