TCT inducts inventor of binder jet printing into Hall of Fame

Professor Emanuel “Ely” Sachs

U.K.-based TCT Group has inducted Professor Emanuel “Ely” Sachs, a pioneer of 3-D printing, the inventor of binder jet printing, and a co-founder of Burlington, Mass.-based Desktop Metal, into its Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made a significant impact in either inventing or developing 3-D printing technologies since their inception more than 30 years ago.

Sachs first established the term 3-D printing in the late 1980s while inventing and developing binder jet technology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). As co-founder of Desktop Metal, his leadership has been instrumental in the development of Single Pass JettingTM, the proprietary technology used by the production system. Additionally, Sachs continues to educate the next generation of engineers through his position as a professor of mechanical engineering at MIT, where he earned his degrees in mechanical engineering, including a PhD.
