The latest member of atum 3D’s DLP Station family of 3D printers is the 5-365 EXZ. The company says the machine’s open-resin system, large build envelope, and versatile, powerful light source “create opportunities for an entirely new range of applications, like printing parts for entire shoe size ranges in footwear and orthotics parts that were previously unimaginable.”

The Netherlands-based company designed the machine for fast, local manufacturing of single pieces or series production. It prints parts with dimensions up to 190 by 107 by 450 mm. An all-new Z-axis allows the build platform to accelerate four times faster and move twice as fast vertically than earlier systems, allowing build speeds up to 150 mm/hr.

The operator software is based on proprietary algorithms that take into account specific resin properties when used in the 5-365 EXZ, as well as individual printer calibration data when slicing. The system’s curing station combines a large-capacity vacuum chamber and powerful UV light that reportedly allows postbuild curing to be performed 10 times faster.
