PEKKing orders: Essentium offers new resin for 3D printing

Essentium Inc., a supplier of 3D printers and additive manufacturing materials and services, has introduced a new PEKK material. Made with Arkema 6002 Kepstan resin, the polymer filament offers high resistance to heat and chemical degradation while providing the high mechanical strength needed to meet the performance requirements of aerospace and industrial applications.

PEKK (polyetherketoneketone) shares most of the performance attributes of PEEK (polyetheretherketone) but has a lower crystallization rate. This means it is less affected by the cooling process once a part is 3D-printed, which minimizes warping. The extrusion temperature of PEKK ranges from 340° C to 400° C.

The company says the new material extends its open additive ecosystem by allowing manufacturers to scale and meet the requirements of their specific applications with tested and certified materials of their choice.
