Harper College welding students leave mark on campus

Harper College’s welding technology department has joined in the school’s sustainability efforts to expand infrastructure on campus to promote healthy lifestyles and recreational opportunities.

Students from the welding and fabrication program are fabricating bike racks for installation on the Palatine, Ill., campus. They began making the racks in fall 2014 in response to a need to find a practical application for their bending and welding lessons and a need for more bike racks on campus.

The class will work each semester to fabricate two bike racks, showcasing student work on campus while helping to contribute to the college’s green efforts.
