Hino to expand U.S. operations

Novi, Mich.-based Hino has announced a $100 million investment plan to strengthen its U.S. operations with the introduction of a new truck line and new facilities.

The company plans to convert an existing building in Mineral Wells, W.Va., into a new truck assembly plant. Located close to the company’s current plant and four times larger, the new facility is expected to be operational in early 2019. It will allow the company to combine several assembly operations under one roof, including cab assembly, an operation currently conducted in Japan.

The facility will create about 250 new jobs in early 2020 over a two-shift operation. In addition to producing the company’s current line of conventional trucks, the assembly plant will produce a new line of Class 7 and 8 trucks to be introduced in 2019.
