Heavy vehicle component manufacturer improves repeatability with roll bender

Situation
For more than 130 years, Italy-based Rolfo SPA group has produced fittings for heavy vehicles. Recently its fabrication of a profile was causing difficulty.
Workers were producing the profile using a manual press. The result was literally a hand-made product, and each one was dimensionally unique because it could not be made with repeatable accuracy.
Resolution
The company acquired a six-roll profile bending machine from MG SRL. This SZ 140 machine can bend a profile in the opposite direction to form an S. The profile passes through two pairs of rolls that hook it; the third pair (bending rolls) move on vertical and horizontal axes to bend the profile in one direction and then in the opposite one.
The machine’s Touch Command EVO numerical control, developed by MG with software company Delsy, helps ensure the repeatability of every machined piece. It monitors processing in real time and corrects any deviations that occur, adding speed and accuracy to the operation.
Industry 4.0 provides the possibility of a Wi-Fi interface for the creation of a fully automated production system and for data interconnection, and the remote assistance system makes it easy to identify and resolve problems.
