Dynabrade founder dies

Power tool manufacturer Dynabrade Inc. has announced that its founder, Walter N. Welsch, died May 16, 2020. He graduated from St. John’s University and in 1951 joined 3M as a sales representative. While calling on jukebox manufacturer Wurlitzer, he developed an idea for replacing hand filing with a power-actuated abrasive belt filing machine, now known as the Dynafile.

Welsch founded Dynabrade in 1969 and moved the company from North Tonawanda, N.Y., to what is now a 150,000-sq.-ft. global headquarters in Clarence, N.Y. The company also has facilities in Europe and India.
