Cardinal Mfg. students build custom go-cart using Widia tooling

In a project commissioned by Latrobe, Pa.-based Widia for its booth at IMTS, students from Cardinal Mfg. have produced a custom go-kart using Widia tooling. The Cardinal team will be at Widia’s booth to showcase the go-kart, which is the prize for the winner of a go-kart race at Widia’s customer event on Sept. 12.

Cardinal Mfg. is a company within a school, providing educational opportunities for students to build professional, problem-solving, and career skills based in a real-world business environment. Students are responsible for all aspects of the operation, from advanced machining to welding.

“We feel very lucky to work with these students and support Cardinal Manufacturing,” said Chris Merlin, director of global marketing. “Not only does this program address the skills gap in advanced manufacturing and provide students a meaningful education, but it also instills soft skills and professionalism that employers like Widia seek out.”

Widia manufactures milling, turning, holemaking, and tooling system products.
