LIFT releases Q3 reports on lightweighting-related employment trends

Detroit-based LIFT—Lightweight Innovations For Tomorrow, a Manufacturing USA institute, has released reports highlighting employment trends, top jobs, and required skills in advanced manufacturing through Q3 2018 for Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

According to the reports, in all five states, employment in lightweighting-related occupations continues to climb, corresponding with continued employer demand. In Michigan demand for lightweighting-related skills grew by 14.0 percent into Q3 2018, with 63,940 job postings during the quarter. In Ohio demand grew by 23.3 percent into Q3 2018, with 67,826 job postings.

In Tennessee, from Q2 2018 to Q3 2018, online ads for lightweighting-related jobs grew by 33.5 percent. There were 30,110 related job postings during Q3 2018, which represents more than double demand in the six years since analysis began in Q1 2012. In Indiana, demand for lightweighting-related workers grew by 30 percent, with 37,384 job postings during Q3 2018—a 49.9 percent growth rate since Q1 2012. And in Kentucky demand grew by 37.6 percent, or about 5,500 postings, into Q3 2018. There were 20,325 job postings during Q3 2018.

LIFT, operated by the American Lightweight Materials Manufacturing Innovation Institute (ALMMII), is a public-private partnership dedicated to developing and deploying advanced lightweight metal manufacturing technologies and implementing education and training programs to better prepare the workforce today and in the future.
