Worthington Steel president named 2024 Steel Executive of the Year

Geoff Gilmore

The Fabricators and Manufacturers Association and the Association of Metals Processors and Distributors have awarded their 2024 Steel Executive of the Year honor to Geoff Gilmore, president/CEO of Worthington Steel.

“The timing of this award is especially meaningful as Worthington Steel embarks on a new chapter this year as a stand-alone publicly traded company,” Gilmore remarked. “I’m thrilled to lead us into our next phase of growth and to continue driving the steel industry forward.”

Gilmore joined Worthington Industries in 1998 in sales for the Steel Processing segment, taking on roles of increasing responsibility over his 24-year tenure. He’s served in multiple leadership capacities, including vice president of purchasing and as president of Worthington Industries’ largest business segments, Steel Processing and Pressure Cylinders. He led each to record earnings, oversaw one of the company’s largest acquisitions, and enhanced a culture of safety and innovation.

Gilmore most recently served as executive vice president/COO of Worthington Industries. He was asked to take on his current role when the firm announced plans to separate into two publicly traded companies.

Since 1956, the Steel Executive of the Year Award has recognized individuals who have made lasting contributions to the steel distribution industry during their careers. Gilmore will accept the award at the 2024 FMA Annual Meeting in Clearwater Beach, Fla., on Feb. 27.
