Samuel Pressure Vessel Group invests in new capabilities

Samuel Pressure Vessel Group, a manufacturer and distributor of pressure vessels, has invested in new equipment and plant upgrades as part of an ongoing improvement initiative at its Marinette, Wis., and Lebanon, Va., facilities.

The pressure vessel fabricator recently added a new 30- by 8-ft. plasma table with 5-axis beveling head capable of burning up to 96-in.-dia. shells. The table features traverse speeds of 2,100 IPM, can pierce-cut 2-in.-thick carbon steel and 1-3/4-in. stainless steel, and edge-cut up to 3-in. carbon steel plate. An identical table will be installed at the Lebanon, Va., plant in August.

“Our new plasma table is far more capable than the old one. We can now perform as many processes as we need to internally, especially beveling,” stated Nathan Burdue, first-shift plasma operator.

In addition to the equipment upgrades, a 5,000-sq.-ft. section of the Marinette facility has been adapted for stainless steel fabrication. Modifications include isolation of the area and installation of a Hydro-Test station, hard piping for a weld gas system specifically designed for stainless steel, air filter mask system for all welders, accommodations for potable water and discharge, and a 5,000-lb. lifting capacity throughout the department.
