American Crane & Equipment hosts students on Manufacturing Day

American Crane & Equipment Corp., a manufacturer of overhead electric cranes and hoists in Douglassville, Pa., invited a group of 35 students from Exeter High School in Reading, Pa., to tour its facility on Manufacturing Day, Oct. 3. The high school has implemented a STEM-based program into its curriculum and has asked American Crane, along with other local businesses, to partner with the school to support this innovative initiative.

After learning more about overhead cranes, hoists, and their applications, the students took a tour of the company’s six manufacturing bays. They walked through areas where material preparation, machining, welding, electrical assembly, shipping/receiving, and engineering occur daily. In addition, the students learned about manufacturing jobs such as machinists; fitters; electricians; mechanics; designers; and electrical, mechanical, welding, and structural engineers.
