CB&I to close South Carolina pipe fabrication plant

Chicago Bridge & Iron, based in The Woodlands, Texas, has announced plans to close its fabricated materials plant in Laurens, S.C., on March 30, 2018, and lay off 250 employees.

The facility had been working on the V.C. Summer nuclear station project, located in Jenkinsville, S.C. That project was halted by Scana Corp. and Santee Cooper. The plant will complete its contract work for the Plant Vogtle nuclear expansion, under construction in Burke County, Ga., before it closes.
