DOE partnership targets manufacturing sustainability

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) have formed the Sustainability in Manufacturing partnership. Through the partnership fostered by DOE’s Better Plants program, the organizations will work together to help U.S. manufacturers drive energy productivity improvements and accelerate adoption of energy-efficient technologies.

Sustainability in Manufacturing will enable officials with DOE and the NAM to engage directly with manufacturers, identify opportunities for energy-efficiency improvements, and serve as a platform to recognize companies and leaders leading innovative strategies.

The U.S. spends more than $200 billion a year to power manufacturing plants. Through the Better Plants program, nearly 200 manufacturers nationally set specific energy-efficiency goals and share energy-reduction strategies. Sustainability in Manufacturing will allow DOE and the NAM to continue to support the sector in its pursuit of energy savings through the research and development of new solutions and the amplification of partner successes, officials said.
