IW’s general organizer for safety/diversity named as Top Newsmaker in 2018

Vicki O'Leary

The International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers (IW), Washington, D.C., has announced that Vicki O’Leary, general organizer for safety and diversity, has been named a 2018 Top 25 Newsmaker by Engineering News-Record (ENR). This honor recognizes her work through the organization's initiatives to level the playing field for ironworker women and her leadership as chairwoman of the North American Building Trades Unions (NABTU) Tradeswomen's Committee.

O’Leary took the lead in launching several groundbreaking IW initiatives to expand diversity, including a paid maternity leave program—the first of its kind in the building trades. She also worked with the leadership to roll out the "Be That One Guy" program to fight workplace harassment that threatens safety and productivity.
