Renishaw 3-D printers to create high-speed aerospace turbines

Britain-based Renishaw has announced that its metal 3-D printers will help develop high-speed turbine blades for the aerospace industry. Through Spanish subsidiary Renishaw Ibérica, the company will join a number of Spanish engineering enterprises on the Futuralve project. The project also includes engine manufacturer ITP.

The four-year project aims to develop new technologies for high-speed aerospace turbines. Working at the Centre for Advanced Aerospace Technologies in Seville, Spain, Renishaw will 3-D print the high-performance, complex, lightweight parts and also provide the technology to measure and qualify the components. The project will use Renishaw´s Sprint on-machine tool contact system, which increases the number of scanned points on parts to allow precise machining and reduced measurement times.
