Rozema Boat Works proposes expansion for building larger boats

Rozema Boat Works, Mt. Vernon, Wash., has proposed an expansion of its existing metal fabrication building, as well as the construction of a wharf on Padilla Bay. As reported by the Skagit Valley Herald, the 30- by 110-ft. wharf, which would extend about 20 ft. into the water, would allow the company to build a large, covered area for metal fabrication.

The company, which builds oil-spill response vessels, commercial fishing boats, tugs, and yachts, is interested in building more passenger ferries, which would require a bigger facility, the Herald reports.

The boatbuilder received a permit from Skagit County in July and is waiting on a final permit from the Army Corps of Engineers.
