Solar Mfg. ships two vacuum furnaces to aviation engine repair plant

Solar Mfg., Souderton, Pa., has shipped two vacuum furnaces to an aviation engine repair services facility located in the western U.S. One furnace has a working zone of 28 by 21 by 36 in. with a weight capacity of 1,500 lbs.; the other has a working zone of 42 by 42 by 60 in. with a weight capacity of 5,000 lbs. Each furnace is designed to fit the needs of aerospace engine component repair processing to the aerospace specification AMS2750E.

The furnaces feature graphite insulation and mass flow controllers for gas flow control of argon, nitrogen, and hydrogen partial-pressure gases, as well as high-vacuum capabilities in the 10-5 Torr range. The furnaces incorporate the new SolarVac® 5000 supervisory control and data acquisition system with large graphic touchscreen overview programming. The system provides gas quench rate control using a variable-frequency drive and temperature control from ambient to 2,400 degrees F using digital power trimming technology.
