Servo-electric press brakes conserve electricity

Automec Inc. is now a certified U.S. dealer of CoastOne servo-electric press brakes. These machines conserve more electricity than traditional press brakes because they do not run hydraulic pumps and heat fluids, reports the company. The servo-electric press brakes use energy only when in motion and otherwise conserve energy.

The technology behind the press brake is the direct-drive system, which uses servomotors tied directly to ball screws to administer force. Because of the direct-drive system, the ram monitors encoders on each drive, as opposed to monitoring linear scales only on the sides. This in turn offers accuracy of 0.000079 in.
