L.S. Starrett’s INTENSS bimetal band saw blades cut variety of materials

The L.S. Starrett Co. offers INTENSS™ bimetal band saw blades featuring an M42 high-speed steel cutting edge welded to a fatigue-resistant alloy steel backing to help improve blade life and cutting action. The blades resist heat, abrasion, and shock for improved cutting rates over a variety of materials including carbon steel, carbon steel alloys, cast iron, copper alloys, and aluminum.
Suitable for horizontal machines and light-duty vertical machines, the blades perform contour and general-purpose cutting in toolrooms and maintenance shops with varied cutting operations. Application shapes include sheets, structurals, and small and medium solids.
The band saw blades include proprietary bi-metal unique® technology, which joins two strips of high-speed steel wires to the backing steel using solid-state diffusion bonding. The bonding area between the backer and the high-speed steel is increased 170 percent compared to conventional electron beam or laser welding, the company says.
