Abrasive discs’ blended fiber dissipates workpiece debris

Saint-Gobain Abrasives has introduced Norton Rapid Prep™ XHD coarse and medium discs for aggressive stock removal and blending. The extra-heavy-duty, nonwoven discs remove weld lines, splatter, and discoloration and blend surfaces in a single step.

The coarse disc is suitable for aggressive weld removal and surface blending on steels, while the medium disc is designed for softer metals and alloys. They combine a conformable fiber matrix and premium ceramic grain for improved cut control and surface blending. The blended fiber dissipates workpiece debris to help increase product life and maximize shape integrity, the company reports.

The discs come in 12 sizes offered in three nonwoven types: quick-change discs from 2 to 4 in. TR attachment, hook and loop discs in 7/8-in. hole and no hole from 4-1/2 to 7 in. dia., and speed-change discs from 4-1/2-in. by 5/8-11 fastener to 7- by 7/8-in. fastener.
