8-kW fiber laser uses new drive system for greater speed, accuracy

Mazak Optonics Corp. has expanded its laser line by introducing the Optiplex Fiber III 3015 8-kW laser cutting system. The machine uses a new PreviewG control and digital drive package.

The new drive system provides higher productivity through high speed and high accuracy, says the company. The control offers faster operations speed, high response, and high-speed machine motion, according to the manufacturer. It has a 19-in. LCD touchscreen that operates similar to a smartphone or tablet.

Designed to integrate intelligent setup and monitoring functions, the laser has been engineered to be used with the company's automated material handling systems. It includes a two-pallet changer design with a helical rack-and-pinion positioning system. The laser is equipped with sensors in the multifunction torch that monitor piercing and cutting operations to improve throughput and part quality. If an anomaly is detected, the operation is adjusted or paused to achieve effective cutting conditions automatically.
