Aluminum alloy offers weight savings for automotive applications

Novelis has introduced Advanz™ 6HF - e/s200 aluminum alloy to the North American market. According to the company, this heat-treatable alloy offers formability, strength, and weight savings for outer and inner automotive applications.

The 6xxx-series alloy offers new opportunities to use aluminum for body sides, door inners, decklid outers and inners, and other closure panels. It also can be used in designs and applications that require bending without the risk of cracking, the manufacturer states.

Weight savings is nearly one-third over steel in inner door applications, says the company.
