Comau’s Mate exoskeleton provides postural support

Comau has introduced the Mate Fit for Workers wearable exoskeleton, designed to provide workers with consistent movement assistance during repetitive and daily tasks. It can replicate any movement of the shoulder while adhering to the body like a “second skin,” the company reports.

The exoskeleton uses a spring-based passive structure to deliver lightweight, breathable postural support without the need for batteries or motors. The company partnered with ÖSSUR, a noninvasive orthopedics company, and IUVO, a spinoff company of The BioRobotics Institute (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna) specializing in wearable technologies, to ensure the design is compact and ergonomic.
