Modified angle encoder available for safety-related applications

Heidenhain has modified the ECA 4000 angle ring encoder series for use in safety-related applications, such as machine tools with dangerous conditions and robotic automation.

The encoder includes an EnDat data interface, and the mechanical connection has been modified to include fault exclusion. The drum has a centering collar on the inside diameter for a centered fit on the mating shaft. The scale drum also has additional back-off threads for disassembly.

The scanning heads have been modified for functional safety, with changes to the holes for mounting. The threads for mounting the scanning unit from the back face have been expanded and placed a little lower to permit the use of longer screws.
